Born in France,
Cluca lives and works in Montreal. Following
studies in socio-anthropology in France,
Cluca joined the artistic world in October 2007 at the School
of Art led by Jörk Kalkreuter in Hamburg (Germany). In 2014, her
paintings featuring bathers were presented by Galerie Youn at the Affordable Art Fair in New York, at the Love
Art Fair in Toronto as well as in two groups exhibit at the Galerie.
It all started with an attraction to "photos
trouvées" - found in my
grand-parents’ boxes, in family albums and at bargain shops (would prefer flee
markets). I recently read an article on those who seek the photographs abandoned
on the counters of junk shops, whom the article dubbed “anthropologists of the
mundane.” Ironically, I knew there was a fine link between my socioanthropology
studies and my artistic practice. As a timeless source,
photography is reinvented through my paintings, which carry imprints of imagination
and facts. Set in a precise yesterday, acting like social markers, the poses and
postures of the bodies tell a story that mixes individual identity and
collective memory – an interlacing that generates many questions which inspire
the ongoing painting.
